I've compared the Mafate, Stinson Trail, and Conquest. Different uses, but it can help you decide why Hokas and which Hokas.
For the Stinsons, I wish they had a more comfortable upper, I had to go half size up and make the mods as per my video.

Got these shoes on a Friday and then ran a half marathon xterra trail run the next morning. Best pair of trail running shoes that I have ever had. Have had alot of pain in my feet after long runs for years, but not now. Recovery from this run was next to nothing. Was ready to run again the next day.

      REVITALIZED MY RUNNING

After a stress fracture ended my season last spring, I was very hesitant to return to a minimal shoe again. I was running in the Brooks Pureflow but decided that in order to avoid anymore injuries I needed to go to a more "traditional" shoe so I returned to training in the Brooks Glycerin. Soon after, I felt the same issues returning, Plantar, sore knees, achy muscles. An ultra running friend of mine recommended the Stinson Trail. After the first run I immediately fell in love with them. All my issues have literally disappeared! I have regained my confidence in running and have been able to add mileage without the fear of injuries. I have since purchaced one other pair of Stinson trail and one pair of the Stinson Tarmac.
As a 46 year old runner, Hoka has legitimately revitalized my running career. I will not run in another brand of shoes again

            Thank you

I wore 2 pair on my 2013 2185.9 mile Appalachian Trail Thru-hike. 650 miles on one and 450 on the other before any issues. Both provided great stability and the weight was great. Hoka comped one pair due to some sidewall and toe issues. Great support! Also wore out 1 pair of Matef after 550 miles. They were great in wet, slippery & rocky conditions and superb on the better portions of the trail. Original pair put "my foot hurtieitess" to sleep...no issues the whole 5 1/2 months. The only downside is the durability of the upper portions of the shoe. But they were not designed to be a hikers shoe even thought they performed extrordinarly well. Thank you Hoka.

I was an Adidas runner for the last 16 years. I was very hesitant to try these shoes based on their fit, feel, looks, and heel to toe offset. This has been the best change I have ever made in my running career of 24 years. My legs are less fatigued running in the hilly trails then using my former shoes on a flat treadmill run. I have removed all my old shoes from my rotation and I am planning on getting a pair of Hoka road shoes. The problem is I can't decide which model!!!!!!

I love these shoes and how quickly I recover from harder efforts

I got a pair that had a slight defect which surfaced after about 75m of usage - that happens.

what pleased me is how quickly Hoka resovled the issue with a replacement pair and how professional and friendly the customer service team are.

              Kudos to you!!

Can't believe the durability on these shoes. 900 miles and still going. Tread is definitely worn, but shoe is intact with no signs of separation, still a very plush ride at 9 months old.

Ran several ultras in them. In my first 100 miler, I thought I'd run the first 20 miles in my "fast" Patagonia trail shoes, but man did my soles take a beating and I was very sore. Slipped on the Hokas and ran the remaining 80 into 2nd place. Did this same strategy again for a 50k, but from then on I just go with Hokas the entire time. My only running shoe. Do some adventure race stuff with a Saucony Xterra.

Not sure of sizing. Lost my toe big nails on the 100 miler with blisters on multiple toes. Thought this was the norm until I did a 50 miler last week in the snow. Big toes took a bad beating and I'll lose the nails again. Bad blisters at mile 35, so I swapped out to Xterras and ran last 15 more comfortable in toe box but more pounding on feet. Also better traction with the Xterras in the deep snow (but the Hokas tread is 900 miles worn down...)

              • Midsole Volume

Engineered Oversized midsole volume that can be up to 2.5X the volume of performance specific foam material in the midsole compared to standard running shoes.

                Benefit

Great shock attenuation, a sense of weightlessness, and inherently stable ride which is designed to reduce the fatigue in your feet, legs and core.

              • Meta-Rocker

The Meta-Rocker midsole geometry, specifically engineered with a low heel-toe differential encourages a guided foot gait cycle.

                Benefit

Designed for active recovery by supporting a runner’s form and efficient running mechanics.

              • Active Foot Frame

Uniquely engineered Active Foot Frame midsole geometry allows the foot to sink into the shoe, as opposed to sitting on top.

                Benefit

Designed to provide propriocep-tion feedback to the foot in order to create increased adaptive stabilization.
